Classes

All group classes are held at the Molinara Club, 57 Lyons Road Windsor Gardens, South Australia. (There is a Map at the bottom of this page). These Group classes are to teach you dances so that you can improve your technique and practice them to music. We run Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced classes at the same time but in different locations within the studio. This allows for greater interaction with other students and helps to build a great social atmosphere.

There are Two or Three classes conducted at the same time.

There is a Beginners class and an Intermediate / Advanced class.

This is an Intermediate to Advance class and not suitable for beginners.

The focus of this class is to teach or refresh 1 or 2 dances during the first 40 minutes then social dance until 9.45 pm.

A non-teaching night with social dancing only. Great for practice & social fun.

Beginner Class

At SWAY, our Beginner classes are the foundation for your dancing journey. These classes give you a broad range of dance steps so that you feel less awkward on the dance floor.

You will need to understand that:

Our structured approach to teaching assists students in their learning and obtainment of dancing milestones.

That old saying “You need to walk before you can run” applies to dancing. You need to learn the basic steps and terms first before tackling more difficult and complex steps and routines.

Intermediate Class

The Intermediate Class is the next step after the Beginners Class. There may be occasions where we might combine the Intermediate Class with the Advanced Class or the Beginners Class but we will still focus on the capabilities of the students so that they do not get overwhelmed or bored.

During the 2 hour class we will teach you new dances but we will also refresh your knowledge on dances you have already learnt. It is impossible to cover all of the dances that you have already learnt during the class so we strongly encourage you to start attending our Wednesday night intermediate / Advanced class. This class is structured in a way that regularly includes dances that you should have already learnt so that you are able to get up and dance them without instruction. Where you are a bit unsure of those dances, you simply get behind someone who knows the steps and follow them to refresh your knowledge. It also gives you the opportunity to see dances that you are yet to learn. Our goal is to increase your abilities so that you feel comfortable to dance at SWAY social dances / Cabarets / Balls.

Advanced Class

The Advanced Class is the next step after the Intermediate Class. This class is focused on increasing the capabilities and dance knowledge of the students. During the 2 hour class we will teach you new dances and reteach dances that students are having trouble with. It reinforces and refreshes dance steps that may not have been danced for a while. Generally the students regularly attend the Wednesday night class and SWAY Cabarets / Balls, but may even branch out and attend other studios Cabarets / Balls.

Small group classes

We can do small group classes (4 people) as a private lesson. It's $60 per hour but the cost is split between the people attending, not per person. This will be done on our home dance floor at Redwood Park. Days and times determined by vacancies. See our Private Lessons Page for more information

FAQ’s

No previous experience is required but if you do have some knowledge of dance, we will try identify the best Level for you to start at.

Whilst it is always best to come with a partner, we do have other singles in the class.

We will partner you up as best as we can or an instructor will alternate between singles so that you can dance with someone for the dances that you are learning.

Neat casual clothing is fine. It is always best to have a shoe that glides on the floor rather than a shoe with a lot of grip which causes leg fatigue.
