Do you run exams?

Do you have online learning resources?
Yes. We host selected video guides (especially for Beginners) as a reference between classes/lessons. They complement—but don’t replace—face-to-face instruction. (swaydanceacademy.com)
Do I need a Partner to learn to dance?
Whilst it is better to have a partner that can learn the dances together, we do teach singles (ladies and men) and partner them as best as we can. Our staff will partner also ensuring all singles get chance to dance to music.
What shoes do I need to bring?
Shoes with a smooth sole are best. Dance shoes can be purchased once you commit to continue to dance. We do off a service of adding raw hide leather to suitable shoes (for a small fee) rather than purchasing dance shoes.
When I attend a class or private lesson, how do I pay?
We prefer cash but can give you our bank details to transfer money. We do not have EFTPOS facilities at the studio.
I have never danced before, is that going to be an issue?
No, as we will put you in our beginner class. As you increase your skills and knowledge, we will move you into our intermediate class and eventually our advanced class. Some people book private lessons to learn quicker, rather than only learning group class dances.
How long do Group classes run for?
Group classes are for 2 hours. We do not split that time into Latin classes and Ballroom classes. We teach a blend of latin and ballroom dances during that time and don’t expect you to pay extra for each class.
Can I buy a gift card for classes or lessons?
Yes, we can create a gift card for you depending on the amount you wish to spend. Private lessons are $60 per hour and Group classes are $15 per person. Multiply the appropriate charge by the number of lessons / classes you wish to purchase to work out the overall cost.
When having a private lesson for two people, do we both have to pay the $60?
No, you are paying for the instructor’s time, so it’s just $60. You can split the cost between the people learning (no more than 4 people as long as they are all learning the same thing).
How long will it take me to learn to dance?
You will be able to dance some basic steps in just one lesson, however additional steps will take more time. Some people learn quickly whilst others take longer to learn. We work at your pace
How many lessons do I need to do for a wedding dance?
There is no set number and we do not lock you into a contract of a specific number of lessons. We work with you to create a routine that you are happy with. Complex routines may take longer
When do I need to start private lessons for a wedding?
The early you start the better it is. This way you will become more familiar with your routine and be less stressed about dancing the routine at the wedding. Complex routines take longer to learn than simple routines. We don’t teach you the routine at one time. We teach you something then build upon it, showing you steps that you are happy to dance. It all depends on what you want and not what we expect you to do. Practice is crucial and we can back off the lessons once you can consistently dance the routine. Fault checking lessons can be added closer to the wedding to ensure that you are still on track. A 30 minute lesson ($35) may be all you need to fault check your routine.
When can we start Group classes?
We do not run terms with everyone starting at the same time. You can start at anytime. If you miss a week, it does not matter as you are not contracted to a particular term. You only pay for the lessons you attend. It is best to consistently attend classes to reinforce your learning and we repeat dance steps and build upon them as required.
I learnt so much in class, I don’t think I can remember it all?
Repetition is key. We will repeat what you have learnt over a number of weeks so that you can remember them and get the muscle memory. We also have created our online learning video library so that you can view the dances you learnt to refresh your memory.
How do I get started or ask something else?
